1.
Behold the work of Christ Our guilt is dead and buried He nailed it to the cross And raised us up in vict'ry He set us free to run This race that ends in glory With sin left in the dust A faint and distant mem'ry O set your eyes on Christ and sing To the mighty King, He lives Arise and live for Him O saints of God, rejoice The One who's strong to save you Will keep you in His love And promises to change you The life you led before No longer shall define you His power is your power To leave the past behind you Where the Spirit of the Lord is There is freedom Where the Spirit of the Lord is There is freedom, freedom
2.
I need the Gospel On my best and worst days To be reminded Of my guilt and Your grace Both when I've triumphed And when I've fallen on my face My only hope remains That Jesus took my place He lived the life we could never live He paid the debt we could never pay He rose again, we rise in Him For all we need, forevermore We look to Him I need the Gospel When I'm trusting my deeds Even my best works Had You nailed to the tree So when I'm standing Lord keep me humbled to my knees My only stand remains That Jesus stood for me I need the Gospel When I stumble in sin When shame surrounds me And I'm fearful within When the accuser Is digging up my past again Show me my Advocate The sinner's faithful Friend Before the throne of God To plead for me, He stands (Oh, He stands)
3.
V Solas 03:40
Your Word alone The sinner's only hope One solid rock One light where all was dark The message of the cross Thought foolish by the world We know it is the very pow'r of God In Christ alone The sinner can be saved One narrow Door One Life, one Truth, one Way He died upon our cross And overcame our grave He lives to mediate our peace with God All glory forever Be to our God alone All honor and power Evermore to Him And Him alone, amen By grace alone The sinner's welcomed home The work is done We gain what Christ has earned How costly was the gift Yet freely Jesus gives To one and all, the Savior calls, "O come" Through faith alone I know that I will stand I rest my soul In Jesus' piercéd hands And as I turn from sin Still ever I'll depend On nothing but the blood of Christ the Lamb
4.
How ugly is the sin of man To turn against our loving God To take our lives in our own hands And nail our Maker to a cross How heavy is the weight of guilt That striving man could never lift Yet greater still, yes greater still The grace of God Debt so great that our God alone could pay it Love so great that He gave His only Son Gift so great that our sin is gone Oh the grace so great that our God has shown How beautiful the Son of man The King of Heaven come to earth The Spotless Lamb who knew no sin Yet died to break the sinner's curse How precious was the blood He shed How mighty was the sting of death Yet greater still, yes greater still The pow'r of God What a gift of grace, we receive by faith As we turn from sin, and believe on Him Everlasting life, in the name of Christ Everlasting praise, be to God so great Debt so great, that our God alone could pay it Love so great that He gave His only Son Gift so great that our sin is gone Oh the grace so great, oh the grace so great Pow'r so great that He rose again in vict'ry News so great, we will live to make it known All the glory to Christ alone For the grace so great that our God has shown Oh the grace so great that our God has shown
5.
O saints of God, rejoice In wonder, lift your voice And feel the mystery That God is listening Our Father reigns above And welcomes us in love Unworthy as we are Run to His open arms O how great the gift of prayer Our hearts are heard in Heaven We have a Champion there Cast upon Him ev'ry care O saints of God, take courage And praise Him for the gift of prayer Draw near in Jesus' name He is our living Way Dying upon the cross He tore the veil for us Before the throne above He lives to intercede Lift up your heart of praise Lay down your ev'ry need Fear not, you weak at heart When you can't find the words His Spirit pleads for us The very will of God And as we're taught the Word He floods our hearts with light Transforming our desires To pray the mind of Christ
6.
Use Me 05:38
The lost across the ocean The lost across the street The lost across the table Their Savior yet to meet O Christ, equip Your people To be Your hands and feet Your Gospel is our power Your presence is our peace So here I am Lord, send me out To bring them in O save them and use me Yes, I am weak But You are strong I'll trust You, Lord O save them and use me Can't leave it to the preacher Can't leave it to the pro I'm standing on the frontline My people need to know Let perfect love compel me And cast away my fear I know the only Savior My people need to hear From strangers to neighbors From neighbors to fam'ly Lord, use us to bring them in From darkness to light and From death into life You can use us to bring them in You can use me to bring them in

about

A foretaste of things to come, this EP is a collection of songs written for congregational singing. The project began with a simple question: What do I want my church to know? The resulting record is an exploration of foundational Christian truths set to music—sound theology, if you will.

"Arise and Live" is a call to fight against sin and temptation and to grow in Christ-like character. The gospel is not just about forgiveness of sin, but also freedom from sin. The same Christ who saves us is mighty to change us. I was delighted to record some of my former students as backing vocalists. Shout out to "the kids in the trunk"—miss you guys!

"I Need the Gospel" is about our need for daily gospel reminders to humble us, assure us, comfort us, and keep us fighting for holiness. On our good days and our bad days, our only hope is Jesus living, dying, and rising in our place. I dedicate this song to my friend and brother, Robbie.

"V Solas" is about the five guiding principles of the Protestant Reformation which help us guard the true gospel of Jesus against all counterfeits: we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to Scripture alone, and to the glory of God alone. I wasn't sure I could fit all five solas (solae?) into a relatively concise and coherent song, but there we have it!

"Grace So Great" was inspired by 11th-century theologian, Anselm of Canterbury. Explaining why Christ had to be both God and man, he wrote, "...the debt was so great that while man alone owed it, only God could pay it..." That seed grew into a full-fledged gospel presentation: the problem of sin, the saving work of Christ, an invitation to repent and believe, the promise of everlasting life, and a call to spread the news.

"Gift of Prayer" is a meditation on the various roles of the Trinity in prayer. We pray to God the Father who reigns over heaven and earth and yet gladly hears us when we call. (Read that again if you weren't amazed by it.) We pray in the name of Jesus the Son, our great High Priest who has made us righteous and given us access to the throne of grace. We pray in the power of the Holy Spirit who not only prays through us but also teaches us to pray as we should.

Finally, "Use Me" is about personal evangelism. I have heard many songs about the church spreading the gospel but none that put the responsibility on individual Christians—on you and me. This song is a reminder that God has given each of us unique access to certain people that others may never reach. God has a mission, not just for the church at large, but for Marty, Sara, Kyle, Rose, and so on.

May this record set your eyes on Christ and propel you forward in your mission. These songs were made for singing, written with the voice of the church in mind. You are welcome to use them any time, and free resources are available upon request. Proceeds for my music help support missions and Bible translation through International Mission Board and Wycliffe Bible Translators. Thank you for listening!

All glory forever be to our God alone,
Marty Clark
